The Princess of Wales just paid tribute to Princess Diana in the most adorable way with this Wimbledon outfit
If anyone knows how to pull off a major fashion moment at Wimbledon, it’s the Princess of Wales.
While a brief look out of the rain-sodden window right now may not scream summer, the minute you switch on the TV and see that grass court you know that it must be July. Because while the Great British weather might not be predictable, you can always count on Wimbledon to truly kick off the season.
And while we are all, of course, gripped by the scoreboard, we’d be lying if we said we weren’t somewhat distracted every year by the slew of major fashion moments making their way through the gates of SW19’s most eagerly-anticipated event.
Thrilling both tennis and royal fans alike, the Princess of Wales just made an unexpectedly early arrival on day two of the fortnight-long tournament. Attending in order to watch British number one Katie Boulter play Australia’s Daria Saville, eyes were – of course – peeled to see what she might be wearing for such a rainy day courtside.
Ticking just about every box, Kate Middleton opted for Wimbledon-appropriate green courtesy of a mint Balmain blazer and pleated white midi skirt. Pairing the look with a matching white Mulberry bag and her favourite white Gianvito Rossi pointed pumps she hit just the right note in terms of both style and practicality.
Of course, you can always count on the Princess of Wales to provide a subtle and sensitive sartorial nod to her late mother-in law, and this week’s look – with its double-breasted blazer and contrast white lapels – was unmistakably reminiscent of a black such look worn by Princess Diana at Wimbledon in 1994.
Also paired with gold jewellery, this trend for bold, eighties-inspired tailoring is one that we’re hoping doesn’t go away any time soon.
Joining the Princess of Wales courtside already this week has been the likes of Rochelle Humes, Leslie Mann, Pixie Lott, Clara Amfo and an injured Emma Raducanu, who have all put on their tennis best for the opening days of the tournament.
Hosting many of the biggest names, evian, the official water sponsor for The Championships, are once again encouraging their guests to dress “summer-smart and eco-conscious”, with sustainable, vintage, rented or-reworn pieces thoroughly recommended.
