Major Peter Doig Exhibition Opens at The Courtauld
BY Hulya Ozkoyuncu
On 10 February 2023, The Courtauld Gallery launched “The Morgan Stanley Exhibition: Peter Doig,” a career-spanning retrospective that marks the first contemporary solo show held there since its 2021 renovation. This exhibition includes Doig’s latest paintings and works on paper created after his return to London from Trinidad in 2021. His distinctive landscapesrich with cinematic echoes and memory invite viewers into a deeply evocative, dreamlike world.
The show features new London inspired subjects alongside older works completed elsewhere, revealing Doig’s ongoing dialogue between memory, place, and imagination. Alongside the paintings, a selection of contemporary drawings and prints is displayed in the Gilbert and Ildiko Butler Gallery. Curators say this presentation “offers a vivid insight into one of today’s most inventive figurative painters.”
