London hosted an important international gathering on 2 September 2026, centred on peace, humanity and global solidarity. International Humanitarian Peace Award Ceremony 2026 brought together representatives from diplomacy, politics, academia, business, media and civil society from different parts of the world on the same platform. Held under the theme “Together for Peace, Humanity and Global Solidarity”, the event addressed ongoing wars, conflicts and humanitarian crises in different regions of the world, while highlighting messages on protecting human life, human dignity, international solidarity and strengthening sustainable peace. The organisation was held at The In & Out (Naval and Military Club) in London’s historic St James’s Square, organised by the Islamabad-Pakistan-based Institute of International Peace Leaders (IIPL), with contributions from the DMW International Diplomatic Association, headquartered in Geneva and Düsseldorf, and the European Diplomatic Association.

Led by IIPL President Dr. Muhammad Atta Ur Rehman and IIPL Türkiye Director and Vice President of the DMW International Diplomatic Association Prof. Dr. Uğur Özgöker, the organisation attracted attention for bringing prominent figures from different countries together under one roof.The programme went beyond being an event solely for the presentation of awards, becoming a platform where some of the most important issues of our time — wars, forced migration, humanitarian crises, the protection of civilians and international solidarity — were evaluated from different perspectives.The gathering, attended by participants from various fields ranging from diplomacy and academia to business, media and civil society, emphasised that lasting peace can be achieved not only through political agreements but also through multidimensional policies that strengthen the living conditions of societies.

During the programme, it was emphasised that wars do not only produce political and military consequences, but also have severe effects on the right to life of civilians, the future of children, the social fabric of societies and regional stability.Attention was drawn to the picture emerging from conflicts in different parts of the world, particularly the humanitarian tragedy in Gaza, with the message that civilians, and especially children, bear the heaviest burden of wars.Within this framework, it was assessed that peace does not merely mean the silencing of weapons or a temporary ceasefire; justice, human rights, education, healthcare, security, humanitarian aid, economic development and international law are also fundamental elements of lasting peace.
Multilateral Cooperation For Lasting Peace
The common perspective presented at the ceremony emphasised the need for the international community to move from an approach that intervenes only after crises emerge towards a more comprehensive approach that addresses the root causes of conflicts in advance.The reconstruction of post-conflict societies, increasing young people’s access to education and employment opportunities, strengthening humanitarian aid mechanisms and developing dialogue between different cultures were regarded as important building blocks of sustainable peace. At this point, it was stated that important responsibilities fall not only on states and international organisations, but also on academics, media organisations, the business community, civil society organisations and community leaders. Speakers participating in the programme also added different dimensions to this common framework based on their respective responsibilities and areas of expertise. Halil Sert, President of the DMW International Diplomatic Association, drew attention to the need to strengthen human-centred diplomacy, preserve young people’s hopes for the future and develop an understanding of international responsibility in the reconstruction of post-conflict societies.
Serkan Bayram, Istanbul Member of Parliament and Chairman of the Board of the World Disabled Foundation, together with other speakers from different countries, contributed to the common message of the programme through their assessments on human rights, social responsibility and international solidarity.
Uğur Özgöker Highlights The Mecca Joint Defence Agreement With A Notable Perspective
One of the prominent topics of the programme in terms of international security and regional stability was the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement, brought to the agenda by IIPL Türkiye Director and Vice President of the DMW International Diplomatic Association Prof. Dr. Uğur Özgöker. Özgöker drew attention to the significance of the Joint Defence Agreement signed in Mecca on 7 August 2026 between Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan in terms of the regional security architecture. Pointing out that the agreement aims to strengthen the collective security and deterrence capabilities of the three countries, develop defence cooperation and support peace, security and stability in the region, Özgöker assessed that this new security perspective carries significance in terms of regional balances. While Özgöker’s assessments added a diplomatic and strategic perspective to the peace and security issues discussed at the ceremony, his call for “no more babies to die”, emphasising that children should not pay the heaviest price of wars, strongly reflected the humanitarian dimension of the programme.
Derya Şahin’s Presentation Left Its Mark On The Programme
The ceremony was hosted by renowned linguist Derya Şahin.
Şahin, who managed the protocol and stage flow of the international organisation, attracted attention with her strong diction, command of the programme and professional presentation. Çelik received the Peace Journalism and Media Excellence Award for his work entitled “Witness of the Century – The Century-Old Story of Anadolu Agency”.
Another important media award was presented to Alpaslan Düven, UK Representative of Turkuvaz Media and President of the Turkish-British Journalists Association.Düven was honoured with the International Media and Journalism Award for his international journalism work closely following political developments in 21 European countries as well as Latin American countries including Venezuela, Colombia, Argentina and Brazil.During the programme, the role of the media in wars, humanitarian crises and social issues was also discussed. It was emphasised that journalism is not limited merely to reporting news, but also carries an important responsibility in terms of accurate information, public interest, human rights and developing understanding between societies.
Hülya Özkoyuncu Among The Award Recipients
Journalist, owner of The Best Magazine and Co-Chair of the Turkish-British Journalists Association Hülya Özkoyuncu, who continues her work in the field of media and communications in London, was also among those honoured within the scope of International Humanitarian Peace Award 2026.
Özkoyuncu’s journalism and media activities gained recognition at the organisation, together with her work aimed at strengthening communication and media ties between Türkiye and the United Kingdom.
Leyla Peker was also honoured for her work in communications, media and business through her role as President of Durin Agency.

Dr. Fabio Carbone contributed to the programme through his academic work on Gaza in the field of Events, Tourism & Hospitality Management, while E. Süleyman İmreoğlu represented both social responsibility and professional experience through his role as a certified public accountant as well as his membership of the Board of Trustees of the World Cancer Foundation.
