Glasgow Museums Return Stolen Artefacts to India

Written by: Hulya Ozkoyuncu
In January 2023, Glasgow Life Museums made a significant cultural gesture by returning seven stolen artefacts to India. These historical pieces, including a 14th-century ceremonial sword and an 11th-century temple arch, had been taken from Indian temples during the colonial era. The repatriation was praised as a meaningful step towards ethical museum practices and cultural justice.
This act reflects a growing awareness in the UK regarding colonial history and the rightful ownership of cultural heritage.
