John Akomfrah Named UK Representative at Venice Biennale

In a landmark announcement, the British Council confirmed that Sir John Akomfrah will represent the United Kingdom at the Venice Biennale 2024, marking a milestone for contemporary British art. Akomfrah renowned for his multi-screen films exploring migration, climate, and identity was knighted earlier this year, underlining his influence on the international scene .
The Biennale takes place from April to November 2024, but Akomfrah’s selection now sparks anticipation across the UK arts community. His past installations, such as Vertigo Sea and The Unfinished Conversation, offer complex narratives that promise a compelling presence in Italy next year.
