Prince William Serves Eco-Friendly Veggie Burgers From a Food Truck
The Prince of Wales left members of the public in shock as he up veggie burgers from a food truck in his latest environmental initiative.
William, 41, joined forces with the popular YouTube channel Sorted Food to spotlight the work of three of the most recent Winners of The Earthshot Prize.
The partnership saw them develop the Earthshot Burger- which was made using Kheyti greenhouse vegetables, cooked on cleaner-burning portable stove, and presented in a biodegradable box.
In a new episode now available on YouTube the Sorted Food founders are invited by Prince William to review and test three Winners’ innovations – each representing a groundbreaking solution to repair our planet – that the team then use to develop ‘The Earthshot Burger.’
William is seen in a food van in central London with the Sorted Food chefs, and one diner puts her hand to her mouth in shock as she recognises the prince.
After putting some ‘Earthshot burgers’ on a counter, he said: ‘Morning everyone, nicely cooked – ready to go.’
William went on to say: ‘So, for those of you who don’t know, the Earthshot prize is there to repair and regenerate the planet.
‘Everything you see here comes from the winners from last year. So the box you’re about to eat in is built (by) a company called Notpla and there’s no plastic involved, they’ve come up with a seaweed coating.
‘The ingredients inside the burger are grown from a greenhouse in India from a company called Kheyti, and last but not least the way we cook them has been on a thing called Mukuru Clean Stoves, and that is designed by a lady in Kenya who came up with the concept to reduce air pollution.’
One of the diners said about seeing the future king: ‘My brain took three seconds to buffer. Am I dreaming? Have I had enough sleep?’ while another said ‘I was lost for words’.
The chefs created a potato-based spicy burger flavoured with garlic, ginger and chilli – with pickled vegetables served in a bun.
Jamie Spafford, co-founder of Sorted Food – known for promoting environmentally friendly food solutions, said: ‘Being joined at our studio and in the food truck by Prince William was a real ‘pinch me’ moment – hearing him explain how passionate he is about helping the planet and what the Earthshot Prize is doing was incredibly inspiring, and has already given us a lot of ideas for future projects to work on with our community.’
This collaboration with Sorted Food is part of The Earthshot Prize’s new partnership with YouTube to produce content for the Earthshot channel that inspires users to drive action against climate change with stories of urgent optimism from around the world.
With over 2.7 million subscribers on YouTube, Sorted Food is renowned for environmentally friendly food solutions and putting food gadgets through their paces.
In a bid to spread the message about the pioneering work of these Earthshot Prize Winners, the episode follows Prince William and the Sorted Food team as they hit the road in their food truck.
Prince William serves surprised members of the public the delicious new burger and offers some insight on the incredible innovations created by Winners of The Earthshot Prize and their impact on communities around the world.
The 2022 Prize Winners put to the test by the Sorted Food team are: Notpla (Winner, Build A Waste-Free World), Mukuru Clean Stoves (Winner, Clean Our Air), and Kheyti’s Greenhousein-a-box (Winner, Protect and Restore Nature).
