28 Faculty Members from Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa Recognized in Prestigious Global List

The annual “World’s Most Influential Scientists” list, prepared in collaboration between Stanford University and Elsevier, has been announced. Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa achieved remarkable success, with 23 faculty members ranked in the annual impact category and 14 faculty members in the career-long impact category.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Selcan Karakuş, a faculty member of the Faculty of Engineering, earned her place on the list thanks to her groundbreaking research in cancer and nanotechnology.

“Being included in this list is truly an honor. It is incredibly motivating to see our work recognized on a global scale. This achievement does not belong to me alone; it belongs to my mentors, my colleagues, my students, and everyone who has supported us along the way. Together, this journey becomes far more meaningful. I sincerely hope that our research in cancer and nanotechnology will one day contribute to improving people’s quality of life. Awards like this show us that we are on the right path—but there is still much more work ahead,” said Karakuş.

Over 1,500 academics from Türkiye ranked among the World’s Most Influential

The rankings, based on Scopus data, are divided into two categories:

Annual Impact: Evaluates scientific output from 2024 alone. Out of more than 200,000 researchers worldwide, over 1,500 academics from Türkiye were included in this category, with 23 from Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa.
Career-Long Impact: Considers cumulative academic performance, including total citations throughout a researcher’s career. In this category, more than 1,300 academics from Türkiye were listed, including 14 from Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa.
The evaluation is based on multiple metrics such as the number of high-quality publications, h-index, hm-index in multi-authored works, citations per paper, author positioning, self-citation rate, and a composite indicator of scientific impact.

Covering 22 scientific fields and 174 subfields, the list identifies the top 2% of researchers worldwide in their respective disciplines.

With this recognition, Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa once again demonstrated its scientific productivity and international visibility, marking another milestone in global academic excellence.
