He served as the special advisor to former Prime Minister Süleyman Demirel between 1991 and 1993 and late Prime Minister Necmettin Erbakan between 1994 and 1997 on foreign policy and the Kurdish issue.
Currently Chief Adviser to the President of Türkiye.
He received the Turkish-American Associations Assembly outstanding service award in 1990 and the special award of outstanding journalism and interpretation in 1994 from Turkish-American Friendship Council.
