The work, which attracted great interest in Bulgaria, brings Atatürk’s diplomatic and cultural traces together with Turkish readers

The work titled “Atatürk’s 440 Days in Bulgaria,” which was recently published in Bulgaria and examines Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s 440-day service period in Bulgaria through historical documents and testimonies, is now preparing to meet readers with its Turkish edition.

Written by journalist and researcher Nahide Deniz, the work comprehensively examines the period when Atatürk served as a military attaché in Bulgaria between 1913–1915 within the framework of diplomacy, cultural interaction, and the critical turning points of Balkan history. It was announced that the Turkish version of the book, which attracted attention with its Bulgarian edition, will also be published shortly through Deniz’s work.

History, Diplomacy and Cultural Memory Came Together in the Same Work

Nahide Deniz, who met readers at a special program organized in Plovdiv by the Consulate General of the Republic of Turkey within the scope of the May 19 Atatürk Commemoration, Youth and Sports Day, signed her book and held a talk with participants.

Speaking at the event held in the meeting hall of Bulgarian National Radio, Deniz emphasized that Atatürk’s years in Bulgaria were not only a military duty period; but also an important phase in which intellectual transformation, diplomatic vision, and the modern state understanding were shaped.

In her speech, Deniz stated:

“We had previously prepared a documentary film about Atatürk’s days in Bulgaria. Then the book covering the same period was published in Bulgarian and received great interest. Now we are completing the final preparations for the Turkish edition. We believe the book will also create a wide impact in Turkey.”

Atatürk’s Traces Commemorated with Art and Music

Within the scope of the program, songs loved by Atatürk were also performed, creating emotional moments. The event, where history, culture, and art intertwined, also drew attention to the shared historical memory between Türkiye and Bulgaria.

At the end of the program, Plovdiv Consul General Emre Manav presented plaques to those who contributed to the event. Journalist and writer Nahide Deniz also received great attention from participants due to her cultural and academic work.
