MEANINGFUL MESSAGE FOR HUMAN RIGHTS AND DEMOCRACY WEEK
An important statement was issued in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus within the scope of Human Rights and Democracy Week. Founder of Girne American University and Democrat Party Member of Parliament for Kyrenia Serhat Akpınar released a press statement emphasizing human rights, democracy and justice.
In the statement, it was stressed that human rights and democracy are the living guarantees of human dignity, freedom and justice, and that these values are equal and indispensable for all people, regardless of geography.
Serhat Akpınar stated that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus has for over half a century been subjected to injustice directly targeting human rights due to political isolations and unfair embargoes imposed under the pretext of United Nations Security Council resolutions. He emphasized that these decisions restrict the travel freedom, right to education, economic welfare and international representation of the Turkish Cypriot people, turning the process into a human tragedy aimed at isolating a people from the world.
He underlined that human rights do not change according to peoples, democracy cannot be suspended according to political preferences, and justice does not belong to the strong but to the rightful. He stated that the Turkish Cypriot people are an honorable nation that has repeatedly demonstrated their will in favor of peace, democracy and a solution-based future, and that despite this, the ongoing unjust practices constitute a deep wound in the conscience of all humanity.
The Democrat Party stated that it will continue its struggle with determination for a world order based on human dignity, defending the equality of peoples, and grounded on respect for sovereignty and democracy.
With these feelings and thoughts, it was expressed that Human Rights and Democracy Week is hoped to mark the beginning of a period in which justice, freedom and peace are strengthened for the Turkish Cypriot people and for the entire world.
The press release was respectfully presented to the public with the signature of Serhat Akpınar, General Secretary of the DP and Member of Parliament for Kyrenia.
